A Year on & a New Name

It is marvellous to think that I have been running my Micro-bakery for a whole year now. So firstly, here’s a well-deserved thank you to everyone that has bought some bread, given me encouragement and pushed me to continue on this baking journey.

A birthday is a good time to take stock and plan for the future. In that spirit (as some of you may have noticed!), Florrie and I have decided to rename the bakery before we push onto the next big hurdle and open a proper site. Sooooooooo... drumroll... Crumbs Bakehouse will now forever be known as Robins Bakery & Provisions. We think that the new name gives the business a much more personal feel, which is important to us, while sounding, dare we say it, a bit less twee?

Without doubt, Crumbs as a name has served us well. When I initially picked it, I was far from confident in the path I had chosen, constantly trying to justify the products that I was producing, and often quite shocked that people were actually willing to pay money for them. This lack of confidence edged me towards picking a name that was a little more generic, which allowed me to hide in the shadows a little. I now feel it’s the right time to throw that cloak off and engage more actively. After all, the thing that I enjoy most about this job is engaging with customers, friends and enthusiasts. Baking has a community feel to it that I haven’t seen in many other walks of life, and it’s something I want to foster and celebrate more moving forwards.

The name change also precedes the much more important goal of setting up Robins as a permanent bakery. We have found a location in East Putney, that’s at the heart of the current delivery zone, and we’re looking to agree terms in the near future. The other hurdle is raising the amount of money necessary to create a new, modern, and inspiring bakery. This too is progressing quite well, but we are hoping that a decent proportion of the money needed can be raised with the help of all our lovely supporters, through crowdfunding. We plan to sell vouchers for future use in the bakery, which could be used for purchasing baking classes, ‘provisions’, event tickets, or just plain old bread and croissant. It would be amazing if as many of you as possible decided to join us on this adventure and be part of the Robins Bakery fam. We shall keep you posted as to when the Kickstarter campaign will begin over the next few weeks. We would love it to go big from the off.

It’s wonderful to be writing such a positive and forward-looking update, and this is genuinely only possible thanks to your ongoing support. So a big old thank you to you all.

Harry
